Would A Chiropractor Buy A Massage Gun?

How Much Is A Massage Gun?

We have looked at a dozen or so Massage Guns on the market, and we calculate that roughly the cost of a decent one is around €250.00 (or 250 dollars at the time of writing).

That’s a fair chunk of cash – and not something everyone can afford.

If you purchase a cheaper massage-gun, you will no doubt be getting worse battery-life and a lower spec. machine.

Will A Massage Gun Help Your Injury?

We advocate Massage as a very important step in our Pain Kit. In all or our Pain Kits, we use Massage as the second step, just after applying the Heat Therapy!

So why do we use Massage?

  • Soften The Muscles and Injured Area
  • Promote Blood Flow to the Area
  • Prepare the Body To Heal
  • Soften the connective tissues (ligaments / tendons)
  • Provide movement to inaccessible areas

So, as you can see, Massage is an absolutely essential part of Any Recovery Program, and one we strongly advocate!

The Drawbacks Of A Massage Gun

The problem with getting a Massage Gun is that you don’t get all the other things that are required for a Full Rehab Program!

You’ve taken care of Massage, but the other missing elements are:

Heat Therapy

  • Apply A Heat Pack To The Injury
  • Promote Blood Flow
  • Soothe The Injured Area

Movement Exercises

  • Rehab Starts With Simple Movement Exercises To The Injured Area

Stretch Exercises

  • Increase The Range Of These Movements

Strength Exercises

  • Once your injury has started to improve, Strengthening the area is what helps prevent the injury coming back!

Cold Therapy

  • Apply A Cold Pack To The Area
  • At the end of every session we advocate the cold pack, to control blood flow in the area (and also act as an anti-inflammatory and pain-relief)

Bracing:

  • We don’t see wearing a brace as actually treating your injury
  • Important to support the injured area while you are not doing your rehab exercises
  • The vast majority of injuries benefit from some kind of support or bracing

There Is A Lot More To Rehab Than A Massage Gun

If you get a Massage Gun, how are you going to know how to rehab that particular injury?

Ok – you will rely on your Physical Therapist or Chiropractor to advise you?

We have found that only about 20% of patients coming to our clinics follow the instructions that we give them, for their own Rehab Exercises!

This is one of the main reasons we put together My Pain Kit!

You don’t want to end up with a nice massage gun, hitting the injured area from time to time, and doing no other exercises that are actually going to fix your injury! (and prevent it coming back!)

Conclusion

Finally, the cost of a massage gun can be prohibitive. Sure, you can pick up a cheap one for 100 or 150 online, but these tend not to be great quality. Most people spend more than that!

There are some high-end guns that are advertised heavily on mainstream sports at the moment that start at 600!

So our advice to you is, if you want – get a Massage Gun!

But you should also get My Pain Kit (which is much cheaper) and get the full rehab program for your specific injury. All our kits contain a tool for massage like a Massage Ball, or a Foot Roller etc, so we have already got you covered.

Best of luck!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do Massage Guns Work For Injury?

Yes, they help you complete one of the steps required for injury rehabilitation (after diagnosis):

  • Heat Therapy
  • Massage
  • Movement
  • Stretching
  • Strength Exercises
  • Cold Therapy
  • Bracing
Are Cheap Massage Guns Any Good?

Cheaper equipment generally will not last as long as higher-quality. If cost is an issue, you could just get yourself a Massage Ball or other cheap equipment that can be used for in-depth massage therapy.

Why Does Massage Not Fix My Injury?

Massage doesn’t fix everything, it’s just one steps that helps injury rehabilitation. Massage can soothe any stiffness in the underlying tissue, promote blood flow and start the process of healing. You will need other things such as Stretches and Strength Exercises as part of a full programme.
